The IDS Stream C comes aboard......

Macleod Simmonds have led the field in the commercial use of GPR array systems since they began trading in 2011. The team have been developing the technology through bespoke software and unique application methodologies since they first started using early systems back in 2004. Having repeatedly proven the technology to be more accurate, safer and far more efficient than a conventional GPR approach, the team are pleased to anounce the arrival of the very latest version of the Stream array family, the IDS Stream C.

GPR array technology allows the survey teams to collect comprehensive “Grids” of GPR data, while travelling in a single direction, at intervals of 6cm x 6cm on carriageways and in large open areas and at 4cm x 4cm on footpaths and smaller areas.  The density of the data collected allows for extremely detailed images to be created that show buried features, utilities and structures beneath the surface being scanned.  These images allow a far more accurate picture to be created of complicated utility networks than has ever been possible, given the time and effort required, using conventional GPR systems.

Macleod Simmonds have just added the very latest system to be launched by IDS to their existing array units and now have 2 no. Stream EM's which are 40 channel towed array units (Capable of collecting data safely and efficiently in live traffic without traffic management), a 24 channel footpath array and the new Stream C system.

The new system, the IDS Stream C array unit represents another dramatic leap forward in the subsurface utility mapping field as far as GPR is concerned.  Here are some of the systems features:

  • Massive array of 34 antennas in two polarizations: this enables an accurate reconstruction of the underground utility network to be created in a single scan.
  • Automatic Pipe Detection (APD): real-time automatic detection of buried pipes and cables.
  • Compact size: Stream C’s small dimensions enable it to survey areas inaccessible to larger array systems while maintaining the same accuracy.
  • Robust construction: built to the highest standards and with hardwearing materials so that it can be used in harsh, demanding environments.
  • 3D radar tomography: real-time tomography on a GPS or total station assisted cartographic background.
  • Professional subsurface survey: pipes, cables and buried objects can be automatically transferred to CAD and GIS formats, allowing a complete subsurface GIS based digital map to be quickly produced.
