We are thrilled and equally as proud to share that, alongside our delivery partners Carnell Group, we were named Highly Commended finalists in the “Best Use of New Technology in the Highways Industry” category at the 2021 Highways Awards.
Our impressive achievement was announced at a star-studded ceremony held at the Royal Lancaster London on the 20th October.
In a fiercely contested category, our revolutionary High Density Array Ground Probing Radar (HDAGPR) technology, which detects unchartered, pipes and cables in the ground, secured a fantastic victory. The technology was deployed by contractors Carnell on the A585 Norcross Roundabout Improvement Scheme as part of a drive by National Highways to eliminate service strikes on all projects. The non-destructive survey technique provided clear, accurate data informing the site team of the exact location of utilities cables. This enabled the cables to be safely exposed with no further related service strikes, thereby creating a safer working environment and minimising service interruption to local communities. Utilisation of the technology also led to substantial cost and environmental savings on the project.
Our team have pioneered the use of HDAGPR technology, from heavily influencing the design of productised systems through to building their own deployment prototypes and are constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of efficiency and quality. Using a unique methodology, combined with their in-house software, our team have consistently proven the technique in the heavily utility-congested London streets and are now using this approach on the National Highways strategic road network.
Our Managing Director Craig Simmonds had this to say after receiving the accolade:
“Receiving Highly Commended in the “Best Use of New Technology” category at this year’s Highways Awards tops off an incredible year for Macleod Simmonds and is a fitting testimony to a fantastic partnership with the team at Carnell! We are all extremely proud of the outcome on this project and that our pioneering HDAGPR technology is transforming the way highway improvements are carried out, particularly its contribution to improving worker safety within the industry.”
The whole team at Macleod Simmonds are overjoyed to be recognised as an innovator in new technology for highways and will strive to continue our status as leaders in the above and below ground surveying industry.
