Are you thinking about a career in surveying? What does a day in the life of a surveyor entail? This week we are featuring Jon Bottomley, Senior Surveyor in the Macleod Simmonds team, to get the lowdown on his role and find out what it’s like to work here.
Working as a surveyor will give you the opportunity to travel all over the country. This is something Jon Bottomley knows well after 13 years in the industry. His work as a surveyor has taken him everywhere from rural farmland to urban London. ‘One of the things I really love about this job is the opportunity it gives me to travel. In the 13 years I’ve been working in the industry, I’ve travelled all around the country and worked with some great people.’
Specialising in PAS 128 and GPR surveys, Jon is thrilled about the technology available to him at Macleod Simmonds. ‘It’s state of the art. We use GPR multi-channel arrays made by IDS GeoRadar. It really is some of the best tech available in the business.’
Having started at Macleod Simmonds in June, Jon is enjoying being part of the Macleod Simmonds team. ‘There is a really good team spirit. Macleod Simmonds have the best team of staff I have worked with and, on top of that, we produce the best results. Our main focus is on quality, and I’ve consistently been proud of the results we produce for our clients.’
We’ve had a nice long summer this year and the variation in this job, means you get to experience it. ‘One of the things that initially attracted me to work as a surveyor was the mix of office-based computer work and work out on site. A surveying career offers a nice amount of variety.’
Macleod Simmonds are looking for geospatial surveyors at all levels to join the team. Whether you’ve been in the industry for years, or if you’re keen on exploring a new career in surveying, we’d love to speak with you about the various roles we have available.
